Round Table “Para Swimming in the Western Balkans: Present and Future” Held in Podgorica

As part of the Erasmus+ project ParaSwInclusion, the round table “Para Swimming in the Western Balkans: present and future” was held on 28 August 2025 at the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro in Podgorica.

The event, organized in a hybrid format, brought together representatives of sports clubs, national federations, academic institutions, and organizations working to advance and promote sport for persons with disabilities in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia.

Through a series of presentations and discussions, participants addressed key topics for the development of para swimming in the region, including:

  • analysis of the current state and future perspectives of para swimming in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina,
  • the establishment of the Paralympic Committee of Montenegro as a milestone for further institutional development,
  • results of the conducted analysis and preparation of a para swimming register,
  • examples of good practice from EU member states,
  • the importance of continuous education of all stakeholders in para swimming,
  • professional reflections and recommendations for future project activities.

The round table emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, exchange of experiences, and capacity building in order to strengthen the position of para swimming and ensure the equal inclusion of persons with disabilities in sporting activities.

The ParaSwInclusion project aims to foster inclusion and integration of disadvantaged groups through sport, and the conclusions from this event will serve as a basis for the further work of project partners at both regional and European levels.
